Founded in February 2005 as a labor of love by three bloggers, BlogHer's mission is to create opportunities for women who blog to pursue exposure, education, community and economic empowerment. Today BlogHer is the leading participatory news, entertainment and information network for women online, reaching more than 15 million women each month via annual conferences, a Web hub (http://www.blogher.com), and an publishing network of more than 2,500 qualified, contextually targeted blog affiliates (http://blogherads.com). BlogHer Inc. is run by its three co-founders and has backing from Venrock, the GE/NBC Universal's Peacock Equity Fund and Azure Capital Partners.

We have three major initiatives:

* The BlogHer community hub (http://blogher.com) is the Web's number-one guide to blogs by women. Every blogger is invited to list her blog and share her latest words, pictures, videos and opinions. As of May 16, 2009, more than 51,000 members have listed over 22,000 blogs by women, organized by topic. Every day, our 60+ editors write daily guides to the hottest blogging by women in 20+ popular topics, form politics, news and technology, to food, health and family.

* BlogHer's conferences are the world's largest for bloggers, regardless of gender -- and men are indeed invited to attend! In 2010, BlogHer will present its sixth BlogHer Annual Conference in New York, NY. BlogHer '09, in Chicago, IL, sold out four months in advance, so BlogHer '10 has been expanded to be our biggest conference yet. BlogHer will present its fourth annual BlogHer Business Conference, also in New York as a bonus third day of the conference. BlogHer will also present its second topic-focused event after BlogHer Business, BlogHer Food '09, this September in San Francisco. Previous keynoter speakers include Tina Brown, Ilene Chaiken, Arianna Huffington, Marissa Mayer, Esther Dyson and Elizabeth Edwards.

* BlogHer's publishing network (http://blogherads.com) is our latest initiative. This network is BlogHer's qualified, targeted environment for contextual advertising showcasing more than 2,500 women who blog across multiple verticals, including parenting, food, business and lifestyle. For more information visit http://blogherads.com.

At BlogHer, we're working together to deliver on the same mission we wrote at a kitchen table in 2005: To create opportunities for women who blog to pursue exposure, education, community, and economic empowerment. (Note: we added the last three words in 2006, to support a request from the community. Read on...)

Working together, BlogHer's members are building a unique community for women online:

* A do-ocracy where BlogHer doesn't serve women online, but rather creates opportunities for all women online to help ourselves and work together to voice and achieve our individual goals--professional, technical, social and personal

* A robust BlogHer community hub equipped with the tools we need to deliver on our mission, branching out beyond a single blog to create a true community resource and meeting place

* A community of women who regularly meet in person, at regional, local and specialized get-togethers, as well as at our annual conference, to continue our conversations. We are committed to extending our conversations and network even to those who cannot attend these meetings in person.

* A successful commercial enterprise via BlogHer's Publishing Network, where BlogHer works with bloggers to provide quality sponsors and advertisers with an opportunity to support communities of women online, and women who blog with an opportunity to pay themselves and promote their quality work.
