The best known Stock Market Index for the U.S. market comprised of 30 of the largest cap and most widely held companies. Often referred to as 'The Dow', 'The Industrial Average' or the 'Dow 30'.

The current index has less to do with pure industrial companies than in the past with large technology companies included, such as Microsoft and Intel. This index is price-weighted, which means the index number is computed using the prices of its components regardless of their market caps. This remains decently consistent as companies selected for inclusion all are large cap companies. A 'divisor' is used to account for companies in the average that may go through a stock-split or pay a dividend so as to keep a more consistent value for the 'average.'

As of October 12, 2009 the 30 Companies included in the average are;
